Brand Story
The Habersham story unfolded in the small town of Clarkesville, Georgia in 1969. Its founder, Joyce Eddy, was given the opportunity to run a small antique shop above a laundromat. Her business-savvy prompted her to find several ways to expand her newfound venture. Using her artistic abilities, Joyce began crafting and selling purposeful purses using antique cigar boxes. People immediately became fond of these because of their unique qualities. From this point onward, the business was named Habersham Plantation, after Georgia’s Habersham County and the plantations which the region is most known for. That one great idea led to other more profitable products for the company. The saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” was true for Joyce who recycled unused items, turning them into profitable accessories. Joyce took wooden spools that were discarded by a local textile company, and from these, she was able to create towel racks, candle holders, and folk art items. Her family was very supportive of her efforts and they too, were eager to contribute in any way they can. With all of the family working together, the brand’s line of handcrafted furniture, that was inspired by 17th and 18th century designs, came into the scene. This was the start of the company immensely delving into the furniture industry. Joyce wanted the pieces to really preserve the spirit of 18th century cabinet-making and designed the company’s factory to work just as they did it from before. With the help of skilled woodworkers and artisans, each piece of furniture received special hand-finishing, signing, and dating. Currently, the company is known for lavish designs that reflect today’s elegant lifestyle.
